For her 7th birthday, Catelyn's wish was to make a positive difference. So, she asked all of her party guests to bring a donation item for Heartland from the Heartland donation wish list. Catelyn and her mother, Jennifer brought the donated items to Heartland and are pictured above with one of our grateful pets.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to our friends from On The Border
In the Spring, a group of employees from On The Border came to spend their free time spring cleaning Heartland. What a wonderful gift to all the animals, all the volunteers, and the staff at Heartland. The group worked very hard and everyone knows cleaning is not always the most fun task. They also made time to spend some quality time with some of our furry residents, which our pets always enjoy!

Thank you to the Religious Education children of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glenview. In Celebration of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the children held a donation drive for Heartland. These children were able to collect many items from our wish list that will help all of our pets at Heartland until they find their forever families. The children also invited Heartland to their Pet Blessing service on October 3rd where two of our Heartland dogs were blessed.
Thank you! Your work is a nice way to show your love for God's animals and a wonderful way to honor St Francis of Assisi.

Thank you Shell Vacations LLC! For September 2009, the Corporate Offices of Shell Vacations LLC, located in Northbrook, IL, decided to hold a supply drive for Heartland Animal Shelter. Employees eagerly collected many needed supplies for Heartland and had a great time doing so. There were so many supplies donated that they almost filled up the shelter’s entire hallway! With so many of SVC’s employees being devoted pet owners and lovers, this supply drive touched the heart of all. Shell Vacations LLC employees also had a great time dropping off the supplies and meeting all the amazing animals at Heartland.

Thank you special friends of Emerald Girl Scout Troop!
Everyone at Heartland including our furry friends want to send a huge thank you to the Emerald Girl Scout Troop from St. Joseph's School in Wilmette. These special girls visited Heartland in the fall and were inspired to initiate a special community service project to help the pets at Heartland. The troop thought of three different ways to help. They hosted a donation drive collecting items from the shelter’s wish list. They set up a fund raising site at www.firstgiving.com/stjoesemeralds. They also hosted a fund raising day at the Skokie California Pizza Kitchen on December 28th. Thank you girls, your efforts are in the true spirit of what Juliette Gordon Low thought Girl Scouts should be!

We are very blessed to have local companies like Castino Painting, and Valspar Paint Company- Architectural Division, Wheeling, IL to count on for donations to help us with the challenges that face us to make our temporary home here at Heartland more appealing and livable for all of our pets until they are placed into their forever homes.
It is refreshing to watch the love and quality of detailed work that that the Castino team is doing to help make the dog kennel come alive once again. A great big hug, and thank you to Rodger Castino for making this dream come true you are truly a wonderful person, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Frankie decided for her 9th birthday instead of presents she would suggest that her friends bring supplies to be donated to help animals. Frankie’s friends brought lots of nice gifts from Heartland’s wish list to donate. Frankie came to Heartland to deliver her gifts and meet some of the pets she is helping. She is pictured above with the gifts and one of our grateful puppies.

A Big Heartland Thank You to Julia Jacobs!!
Julia Jacobs shared her birthday with Heartland’s pets this year. Julia received cash donations and items off of Heartland’s wish list for her birthday celebration. When Julia and her friend came to donate the gifts to Heartland, Sherry, one of Heartland's grateful recipients was sure to thank them. Sherry spent quality time with the girls, letting them pet her and play with her. Sherry even posed for some pictures with Julia and her friend.

Ella and Jordan had their birthday parties in honor of Heartland’s pets this year. They collected donations during their parties. They brought the donations to the shelter and met some of the happy recipients. They are pictured with a very grateful Yorkie Poo puppy.

A Big Heartland Thank You to Chalet Nursery in Wilmette!!
Heartland thanks the Chalet Nursery in Wilmette for their support.
During August, the Chalet selected Heartland as its shelter for the
Fromm's Family Food Feeding Friends program. A percentage of all
sales of Fromm products has been donated to the shelter. On
October 23rd, the Chalet hosted a Pet Parade and Costume Contest
and donated a portion of the proceeds of that days sales from the
Pet Essentials department to Heartland as well. The Chalet has also
hosted adoption day events for Heartland as well.

Staff members at NLU opened their hearts and held a donation drive
for Heartland! The staff collected items from Heartland's wish list. The group delivered many many great donations just in time for the pets to enjoy for Thanksgiving!!

A Great Big Heartland Thank You to a Very Special Young Man - Adam Boiko!!
Adam Boiko has been hosting donation drives to help support Heartland for his Bar Mitzvah project. Adam's goal is to collect 600 items to help Heartland's pets. In December and January, he was at the PetSmart in Northbrook and the Wilmette Pet Center. To date, Adam has collected over $675 for Heartland along with over 450 items like cat and dog food, kitty litter, toys and other items from Heartland's wish list. Adam has had articles written in the Tribune and on-line, and he will be appearing on WGN to talk about his project.
Adam is a shining example of how someone can help their community by putting their passions to good use.

Heartland thanks Eleni and Jessica for opening their hearts to help Heartland continue its mission of finding forever homes for homeless pets. These two very special young ladies presented Heartland with a very generous monetary donation! When they came into the shelter two of Heartland's grateful recipients, Poppie and his son Tyke, were sure to properly thank the ladies.
