Folk Singer Peter Mayer!
Folk Singer Peter Mayer performed a WONDERFUL benefit concert for Heartland Animal Shelter at Northbrook Public Library Auditorium.  A virtuoso guitar player, great singer and warm human being, Peter performed songs ranging from whimsical to introspective.  Thanks, Peter!!   The concert took place on Friday evening, January 25, 2008 at 7:30 pm.

Who is Peter Mayer?  Here is a little bit of biographical information about him:

From his web site:
"Peter Mayer writes songs for a small planet?songs about interconnectedness and the human journey; songs about the beauty and the mystery of the world. Whimsical, humorous, and profound, his music takes you up mountains, across oceans, into space, and back home again. A native of Minnesota with a background in Theology, Peter is not big on love songs, but prefers delving into science, nature, and things spiritual."

"Peter Mayer is a magician...(his) universe is full of metaphor and meaning, story and symbol ? everything contains more than meets the eye."
-- Bill Reed, music editor, Colorado Springs Gazette

"His guitar work is breath-taking, his lyrics mind-spinning, his singing soul-soothing and his feet-on-the-ground optimism nothing short of healing."
--Marilyn Rea-Beyer, music director, WUMB Radio, Boston

"He is unafraid of complicated topics and always strives to look beyond the easy sentiment...Peter does nothing less than address the very nature of our existence...Trust me, most songwriters can?t pull this off. Peter Mayer does."
--Dale Connelly, Morning Show Host, MinnesotaPublic Radio

2008 Hogs for Dogs
Following months of spreading the word to the Biker community, over 150 bikers came out to support Heartland Animal Shelter's, Hogs for Dogs charity ride on Sunday, Sept 21.  We received support from many Illinois communities between Marengo to Lake Forest.  Several riding clubs that joined us were Windy City Hog Chapter, Wildfire Hog Chapter, Blue Knights, Blue Steel, the Bruno & Shark Posse's, and Northbrook Village President, Gene Marks and his group.  Many of the bikers look rough and tough dressed in their leather gear with chromed-out Harley's, Honda's, Valkerie, Victory's, Yamaha and Suzukis, but they have the biggest hearts and support so many charities from animals to kids, cancer to Veterans.

The 73 mile ride began at Heartland Animal Shelter on Sunday morning, cruising thru the northwest suburbs, into southern Wisconsin and ending at Side-Outs Bar and Eatery in Island Lake, Illinois, where Bikers were greeted by music from the Rock and Roll band "Loose Connection", tons of raffle prizes such as Chicago Bears game tickets, or a one of a kind Harley Art piece by Mo Feinblatz, food provided by Side-Outs, Italian Ice and homemade Salsa by Flamin Sauce, Cookie Lee Jewelry, and great weather to acompany it all.

The ride will started at the Heartland Animal Shelter in Northbrook, IL and ended in Island Lake, IL at Side Outs Bar and Eatery where everyone had food and fun following the ride!  The band "The Loose Connections" provided music at Side Outs.  Check out the web site for Loose Connections:  www.looseconnection.info

Please support all the the sponsors for Hogs for Dogs!
